Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

Breast biopsy is the process of obtaining a sample of breast tissue, which will be sent to a laboratory for further evaluation. During a stereotactic biopsy, the patient lies on her stomach with her breast positioned through an aperture in the table, while a trained practitioner uses X-ray images to accurately guide the needle into the area of the breast in question.

The MultiCare Platinum prone breast biopsy table offers the latest advances in stereotactic technology, making it the ideal system for characterization of calcifications, masses and architectural distortion. To better address patient comfort, we have added ergonomically designed cushions made from Tempurpedic™ material to provide targeted pressure point support for most body types. We are the only center to offer this comfort enhancement in the Golden Triangle.

The procedure lasts about an hour and there is no significant scarring. After your biopsy, a physician who specializes in analyzing tissue under a microscope will prepare a report which will be reviewed and forwarded to your physician. Normally the results are available to you in one or two days.
